Business Reporter, Assistant Editor

The Northwest Herald, a 33,000 circulation daily newspaper owned by Shaw Media that covers McHenry County, Ill., is looking for a business reporter and assistant business editor to cover all aspects of the business community.

This reporter is responsible for covering the breaking local business news of the day; giving a local perspective to regional and national stories; reporting on openings, closings and relocations in the county; and writing features and other news off of the beat. Our reporters are expected to generate their own story ideas and take assignments from the business editor.

The successful candidate also will lead the planning, writing, editing and production of our quarterly business-to-business magazine, The Business Journal.

We are looking for a reporter/editor who can tell the business stories that help our readers – including business leaders and others – understand why these topics are important to their lives.

At least three years of professional experience is preferred. Solid knowledge of AP style and grammar is required, as is the ability to write clear, concise copy. Working knowledge of InDesign is preferred.

Must have a valid driver's license, dependable transportation, and proof of insurance. Experience with the Web and multimedia is a plus.
